Playbook
The Frontier Marketing Playbook
How an organisation adopts the framework: start with the proposition, then build the system.
The playbook is the adoption path for the seven-layer framework. It has two phases. The first establishes a resilient value proposition. The second turns it into four connected fields of work.
Phase one — a resilient value proposition
Phase one answers two foundational questions. They are deliberately uncomfortable, because an organisation that cannot answer them precisely has a positioning problem that no tactical work will solve.
Why should this organisation, and not another, solve this problem for this buyer?
The answer must be specific enough to be checked by someone outside the organisation.
What must remain true for that answer to still hold in the market that is coming next?
This converts a positioning statement into a testable resilience hypothesis.
Phase two — four connected fields of work
Value proposition resilience
Assess the present strength of the differentiator and its defensibility against the next state of the market.
- State the differentiator in one verifiable sentence.
- Identify the evidence that supports it today.
- Name the developments that would erode it.
Resilience plan
Test and anticipate how the buyer, the problem and the proposition will evolve.
- Describe two or three plausible future states of the buyer's problem.
- Decide what must become true for the proposition to hold in each.
- Assign owners and review dates.
Marketing frontierisation
Define the compounding go-to-market model and the structures through which the organisation reaches the market.
- Map which go-to-market components exist and what they exchange today.
- Design the exchanges that are missing.
- Decide the direct-to-customer and direct-to-platform structures the strategy requires.
Agentic resources and GEO
Design the agent ecosystem and the retrievability work that makes the organisation legible to machines.
- Define the entity architecture and publish canonical definitions.
- Decide which agents form a connected ecosystem and under what governance.
- Establish monitoring of how models describe the organisation.
Sequence and cadence
The fields are worked in parallel but governed in sequence: nothing in the fourth field is adopted if it does not serve the proposition established in phase one. Continuous Frontier Exploration supplies candidates to all four fields, and GTM Compounding determines whether the work accumulates.
The extended publication
A longer practical treatment of this playbook is in development. Its status is listed on the publications page, which distinguishes published work from working papers, forthcoming work and work in development.
