Short, self-contained answers to the questions most often asked about Frontier Marketing.
Questions
What is Frontier Marketing?
Frontier Marketing is the strategic discipline of building today for the marketing environment that is coming next. Today, that means preparing organisations for the 2030 marketing environment, where discovery, interpretation, comparison and recommendation are increasingly mediated by AI systems and agents.
Who developed the Frontier Marketing framework on this site?
The Frontier Marketing framework documented on frontiermarketing.org is developed by Jordi Marca, a marketing strategist and founder of Gotoclient. The phrase has been used in other contexts by others; this site documents one specific framework and makes no claim of priority over the phrase itself.
Why does Frontier Marketing exist?
It exists because intermediation is being compressed: language models and agents increasingly perform finding, interpreting, comparing and recommending. That changes which organisational capabilities determine marketing outcomes, moving the decisive questions from tactics to strategy, differentiation and legibility.
Is Frontier Marketing the same as Growth Marketing?
No. Growth Marketing generally focuses on experimentation and optimisation in pursuit of growth. Frontier Marketing addresses how an organisation builds resilient strategic and operating capacity when the structure of markets, discovery and intermediation is changing. Frontier Marketing is not presented as a replacement for Growth Marketing; the two address different organisational questions and can coexist.
Is Frontier Marketing another name for AI marketing?
No. AI is one of the forces that makes the discipline necessary, and agentic capability is one of its seven layers. Frontier Marketing also covers strategy, value proposition resilience, entity design, retrievability, compounding go-to-market and continuous exploration, none of which is reducible to the use of AI tools.
What is retrievability?
Retrievability is an organisation's capacity to be found, correctly understood, distinguished and recommended by humans, search systems, language models and autonomous agents. Its four components are findability, interpretability, distinguishability and recommendability.
What role does GEO play in Frontier Marketing?
Generative Engine Optimisation is one of the capabilities that contribute to retrievability, which is one of the seven layers of the framework. GEO is important inside Frontier Marketing but is not synonymous with it, and no GEO technique guarantees inclusion or recommendation by an AI system.
What are the seven layers of Frontier Marketing?
Strategy, Resilient Value Proposition, Entities, Retrievability, Agentic Ecosystems, GTM Compounding and Continuous Frontier Exploration. They are ordered from the most durable to the most frequently replaced.
What are the ten propositions?
Intermediation transforms; AI changes the structure; strategy precedes tactics; strategy is a discipline; differentiation is survival; markets are entity systems; meaning must be legible; the purpose is human; the dispensable disappears; go-to-market compounds. Each is stated, explained and linked to a framework layer on the propositions page.
What are agentic ecosystems?
An agentic ecosystem is a connected set of AI agents, data and workflows that together form organisational capability rather than isolated experiments. Frontier Marketing distinguishes it from a standalone AI tool, an AI assistant and a single AI agent.
What is GTM Compounding?
GTM Compounding is the design of go-to-market components so that they exchange data, learning, audiences, signals, assets and capability. The objective is accumulated capability rather than isolated campaign output.
Why does Frontier Marketing use 2030 as its current horizon?
2030 is a planning horizon far enough away to require strategic choices rather than tactical adjustments, and near enough that decisions taken today still determine the outcome. It is the current horizon of the discipline, not part of its permanent definition.
